In the hills of Oaxaca, Mexico, where the mountains are covered with coffee and banana plantations, there is a minority of indigenous (Zapoteco) children with restricted access to education. Due to distance (the first school is about 10 kilometers away) and expenses (uniforms are compulsory), these isolated children are confronted with the difficult hurdle of trying to recieve a fair education, if at all.

If given the chance, most schools these children have access to offer a very dry, matter-of-fact and uncreative memorization based curriculum allowing very little space for the children's development.

Based on breakthrough and innovative research (from the Montessori to the Emilia Reggio approach), we have designed a playground that will compensate for this lack of crucial development. Our playground will offer complementary holistic education to about 20 farms.

To allow for natural muscular development, sensory motor foundation skills, fine motor coordination, as well as divergent thinking, we have specifically chosen each element of our playground. Built from all-organic and recycled materials, the playground is a critical tool for our alternative curriculum.
