A dream life

Who has never dreamed of changing life, or starting from scratch? 

"Why do we prefer an unsatisfiyng comfort rather than fulfilling our promising dreams with its part of unknown and risk" Laurent Gounellle (French writer).

We are many to be torn between what we need to do for a living and the feelings that are in our heads. The short Lady M (see video above) directed by Simon Heymans with music by Henry Bliss outlines the premise of the concept. This dilemma is at the center of the project A dream life.

A dream life is a feature film. With your support we will produce a short sequence as well as a short teaser/ trailer, which will serve as a promotional tool to help fund the movie. By participating in the project at this stage you are already joining the production of the feature.

Synopsis:

Luka 34, married and soon to be father is manager in a large multinational. He leads a passive career however bright in the eyes of all. When his father dies in an accident, he decides to live for his passion: music. Yet, how to break into the music industry without any contacts when everyone is convinced that it’s hopeless?...

Simon Heymans will direct the sequence and trailer. Henry Bliss will provide the soundtrack. Shooting will take place in Brussels, Paris and New York.

Concept:

Many of us are not completely happy in their work. In today's society we tend to place money as the best way to find happiness. However we avoid to specify how we earn that money. When you know that you spend more than half of your life working, it is reasonable to wonder if our work truly makes us happy. When time comes to choose between a boring but well-paid job and an exciting but financially unstable job, often the most lucrative one is chosen. With this film, we want to talk about those who take the second option; those who decide to take the unpredictable but rewarding path. A path, whether artistic or not but for which they were not intended.

However out of the question for us to make a movie nerd or depressing. We want a catchy human adventure, dynamic and full of emotions. We want people coming out of the cinema to say it’s time to do what I love.

Why fund a trailer and a sequence from the movie?

It is a method that has already proven to be successful. The most famous example is the SAW series where the creators filmed a short scene from the film to prove investors that they could trust them.

It is a way of getting involved in the feature film. By supporting the project at this stage you are already investing in the feature. Indeed the idea is to use the short sequence within the film. 

It’s a way to show how the film will look like. The short sequence as opposed to a short film gives a much better view of what film will be. It accelerates the fund seeking process.

How is this a promising project?

We are convinced that this project is very promising; it should inspire a lot of people. Regardless of the environment you are from, we believe that we all aspire to do what we love. This is not to convince people to embrace an artistic career but to make them think about what really inspires them.

The subject has been developed successfully in various forms. The movie and the book Eat, Pray and Love (Eat, Pray, Love) was a huge success worldwide. The smaller film Control by Anton Corbijn had a lot of success in film festivals. Into the wild, the story about a young guy deciding to leave everything behind was also successful…

Two people carry the project: Henry Bliss (songwriter) and Simon Heymans (director). Both will act as co-producers on the project.

Henry Bliss:

After an MBA followed by a European Master in Economics Henry enters the labor market in real estate and then media. In 2006 he feels it's time to change his life when the idea of a first musical album emerges. He wants to address the themes of 'post-adolescence', and problems encountered when trying to do what really makes you shiver. It's the eternal conflict between what we must do to earn our life and the desires that are really in our heads. This same topic that is central to the film A dream life.

After four years of self-assessment Henry decides to release his album (Henry Bliss & The Sidewalkers - Pretty Lovely Day) co-produced by the Studio Dada and the label Hebra Records. It gets an official distribution in Belgium in 2009 (9th on the Ultratop for several weeks). The album is available on over 400 online platforms (iTunes, Fnac, etc..). He currently works with Phil Malempré on commercials/ television/ films as a songwriter (RTBF, FR2, ...).

Simon Heymans:

Simon Heymans was born in Belgium in 1979. After several years in his native country, he moves with his parents to Hong Kong. There he discovers the American cinema but also films from Hong Kong and China.

After a degree in Business Engineering, he joins in 2003 a large multinational. In parallel to his job he directs and produces several short films. In 2005 he directs the short "Untouchable," which wins several awards and is broadcasted on TV. In 2007 he directs another short film “To Rent” based on a concept and produced by André Hastir. Propeller TV becomes the official distributor of the film.

He decides to enter the music-video industry (Michael Jones, Alter Ego, Henry Bliss, Caroline Jokris ...), as well as corporate and commercials.

In 2009 he joins Mindtaste Studio (Stromae, Citabel, Amnesty ...) for which he is also responsible of the production side. He is currently finishing his latest short film “3 Angry Men”.

Beside the project A Dream Life he is preparing another feature film Cluster for the international market, a thriller with Patrick Bauchau. The film is produced by PlotPoint Production. Maybe Ulule could help us? Another project ...
